Results from the final squirrel/rabbit hunt of the season

The final squirrel and rabbit hunt of the season took place February 25, 2017. The day started off nice but by noon there were heavy down pours of rain which stopped most squirrel movement.

 For this hunt teams were able to either enter for point score or total weight. Eight teams(16 people) entered the point score and only one team (2 people) entered for weight. There were two youth entered. A total of 27 squirrels were taken.

The weight division only entry was the team of Jeremy and Jack Rosignal with three squirrels that weighted 4 pounds with the lunker being 1.37 pounds.
 
The point scoring division had five teams enter 24 squirrels to be scored. With 13  head shots and 10 body shot and 1 more than one hole (shogun pellets). The following are the results:

First Place went to the team of Phil Jensen and Barry Turner with nine squirrels (8 head shot and one more than one hole, shotgun)  for a total of 16 1/2  points.

Second Place went to the team of John Hurlbert and Chad Schedske with nine squirrels (4 head shot 5 body shot) for a total of 13 points.

Third Place went to the team of Nate Hendrix and Matt Utter with three squirrels (one head shot 2 body shot ) for a total of 4 points.

No rabbits were taken.
The club will be sending all the collected squirrel tails to Mepps lures.  The club provided squirrel stew for those who showed up at the club. Thanks to all who participated in this years hunts and see you next season. 

NOTE:  The club will be using the point scoring method for most if not all future squirrel hunts. It provides the most usable squirrel meat (no shotgun pellets to pick out) and involves good marksmanship.

Results from the February 11, 2017 Squirrel and rabbit Hunt

Here are the results from the February 11th  squirrel / rabbit hunt. The day was overcast, the temperature was 30 to 39 degrees with almost no wind.
  There were 15 teams signed up (30 people) for squirrel with three of them being youths and twelve people for rabbit (NEW RECORD) with two of them being youths.
  Ten teams weighed in 49 squirrels, with five team members bagging their limit of six squirrels. 
  Six people weighed in 15 rabbits. (NEW RECORD)
Here are the results:

Heaviest bag:     1st place  Phil Jensen and Barry Turner    12 squirrels  16.95 pounds
                           2nd place  Shawn and Brad Amen            11 squirrels  12.68 pounds
                           3rd place  Lewis Martin and Scott Ridley   8 squirrels  10.81 pounds

Lunker squirrel:  Phil Jensen  1.83 pounds

Heaviest bag rabbit:  Shawn Amen   5 rabbits   15.36 pounds

The club provided baked ziti, squirrel stew and nacho chips for all those who showed up at the weigh in.

Saturday February 11,2017 is the NEXT SQUIRREL and RABBIT HUNT

Saturday February 11 is the next scheduled grey squirrel hunt as well as a rabbit hunt.

The squirrel hunt will be a team event.  Here are the rules and general information for the squirrel  hunt. Followed by the rules for the rabbit hunt. Read them over as this hunt is different from the first one.

       Teams will register/pay a $20.00 per two person team entry fee prior to the actual hunt day. The club will cover the entry fee of $10.00 for any youth team member who is under the age of eighteen.
REGISTRATION: Can be done any time prior to each hunt but no later than the night before the hunt. Registration can be done in person on Friday nights at the club or by calling

Teams with the 1st , 2nd and 3rd highest TOTAL WEIGHT  will win prizes. There will also be a prize for lunker squirrel.
Total weight is based on two people per team.
Each team member needs to be present in order for their squirrels to be weighted. 
Each team member will be allowed to enter a maximum of six (6) gray squirrels for weighting.
The total weight of the the squirrels from each team member will be added together for the  TOTAL WEIGHT for that team. Maximum 12 squirrels
If only one team member shows up to have their squirrels weighted then his or her weight will be the TOTAL WEIGHT for that team. Maximum six squirrels.

No red squirrels.  No frozen squirrels.  No wet squirrels. No road kills.  Only squirrels taken on the day of the hunt can be entered.

The rabbit hunt will be an individual event not a team event.

Each person will register/pay a $10.00 entry fee prior to the actual hunt day. The club will cover the entry fee of $10.00 for any youth who is under the age of eighteen.

The highest TOTAL WEIGHT  and lunker rabbit will win prizes. 
Total weight is based on the weight of no more than six rabbits.

No frozen rabbits.  No wet rabbits. No road kills.  Only rabbits taken on the day of the hunt can be entered.

Anyone with a NYS small game hunting license can participate; all NYS small game hunting regulations must be observed.
Each person will be required to show their small game hunting license prior to their squirrels and/or rabbits being weighted.

Hunting ends at 3:00 P.M. you must be at the club by then. Club will be open from 12 noon and food will be provided and liquid refreshments are available from the bar. Winners will be determined, and prizes awarded.
