Final Squirrell/rabbit hunt results are in

The final squirrel hunt of the season took place Saturday February 24, 2024. It was a sunny day but it was cold with temperatures ranging from 15 to 22 degrees. It was also windy wind chill at times was in the single digits.

There were 7 teams (14 people) signed up, with one being a youth. Ten people brought in 34 squirrels to be scored. Two of those squirrels were black. Four people got their bag limit of six. Two teams got their limit of 12 squirrels. There were 29 head shot and 5 body shot. Watercolor squirrel note cards were given along with the prizes. The following are the results:

First place team was Phil  and Kevin Jensen with 12 squirrels all head shots 24 points. This is the first time a team has managed to score 24 points.

Second place team was Rich Ridley and Lee Earp with 12 squirrels ten head shot and two body shot 22 points.

Lunker squirrel went to Rich Ridley with a 1.60 pound squirrel.
 
Youth Kent Martin 2 points.
 
No one entered the rabbit category.
 
The club was collecting the squirrel tails and will be sending about 155 squirrel tails to Mepps Lures. Who knows maybe someday you may be fishing with a lure that has squirrel tail hair from a Kuneytown squirrel hunt.
The club game dinner is scheduled for Saturday March 23, 2024 and squirrel will be on the menu.  Cost is $20.00 and includes a chance at winning a $500 Bass pro gift card.

Tuesday February 20th we are hosting the Seneca County Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs meeting

Did you know that we are members of the Seneca County Federation of Sportsmen's clubs? Well yes we are and  we are hosting their February monthly meeting here at the club house this Tuesday February 20th. We will be providing food starting at 6:30 pm with the meeting starting at 7PM. It would be great if we had a good turn out for this meeting. There is usually 10 clubs represented at the meeting which would give you a chance to meet other sportsmen and women from the various clubs throughout Seneca County. We all share a common interest in hunting, fishing, trapping and the shooting sports. Hope to see you there.

The Final Squirrel/rabbit hunt of the season is scheduled for Saturday February 24th 2024

The Final Gray squirrel hunt is scheduled for Saturday February 24th,2024. It will be a by points, two person team event with a lunker squirrel category. 

       Teams will register/pay a $20.00 per two person team entry fee prior to the actual hunt day. The club will cover the entry fee of $10.00 for any youth team member who is under the age of eighteen. The fee for the lunker category is $10.00 per team.

 REGISTRATION: Can be done any time prior to each hunt but no later than the night before the hunt. Registration can be done in person on Friday nights at the club or by calling

 Prizes will be determined based on the number of teams entered.

Under 2 event will be cancelled.

3-5  only first place wins a prize.

6-10 First and second wins a prize.

11 on up First, second and third place will win prizes

Only the heaviest squirrel wins the lunker category. 

  Point system scoring for the squirrel hunt.

2 points for a head shot with the neck counting as a head shot.

1 point for any other hit on the body.

½ point for more than one bullet hole, each shotgun pellet hole counts as a bullet hole.

Ties will be broken by the amount of head shots. Person with the most head shots wins the tie breaker.

No center fire calibers.

No red squirrels.  No frozen squirrels.  No road kills. Only squirrels taken on the day of the hunt can be entered. Lunker squirrel is by weight so they cannot be wet.

Maximum  of 12 squirrels per team . If only one team member shows up to have their squirrels entered then his or her score will be the TOTAL score for that team. Maximum six squirrels.

RABBIT RULES: Is not a team event

Entry fee is $10.00 per person. Extra $5.00 for lunker category. 

There will only be a heaviest bag and lunker rabbit category. Unless there are 10 or more people  entered. Then there will be first and second prize for heaviest bag.          

 Each person will be allowed to enter a maximum of six rabbits.

No wet rabbits. No frozen rabbits. no road kills. Only rabbits taken on the day of the hunt can be entered.

 Any person with a NYS small game hunting license can participate; all NYS small game hunting regulations must be observed. Failure to observe all NYS small game regulations will result in the person being disqualified.

 Each person will be required to show their small game hunting license prior to their squirrels/rabbits   being  weighted/scored.

Hunting ends at 3:00 P.M. you must be at the club by then. Club will be open from 1 PM. Winners will be determined, and prizes awarded.

Results from the February 10, 2024 Squirrel/rabbit hunt

 

The second squirrel hunt of the season took place Saturday February 10, 2024. It was a sunny and unseasonably warm day with the temperature at a record high of 60 degrees.The squirrels were out in full force in the morning but not so much as the day warmed up.

There were 11 teams (22 people) signed up, with two being youths. Nineteen people brought in 89 squirrels to be  weighted. Two of those squirrels were black. Eight people got their bag limit of six. Four teams got their bag limit of 12. The following are the results:

First place was the team of Phil and his brother  Kevin Jensen with twelve squirrels for a weight of 15.53 pounds.

Second place was the team of Mike Via and Scott Ridley with twelve squirrels for a weight of 15.36 pounds.

Third place was the team of Rich Ridley and Lee Earp with twelve squirrels for a weight of 14.68. pounds.  

Lunker squirrel went to Scott Ridley with a 1.56 pound squirrel.
 
Youth Ken Martin got four squirrels weighing 5.31 pounds.
 
No one entered the rabbit category

The club is collecting the squirrel tails to send to Mepps lures at the end of the season. The final squirrel/rabbit hunt is scheduled for February 24, 2024 it is a two person team event using the point scoring system with a lunker squirrel category.

2 nd Squirrell/rabbit hunt is scheduled for February 10, 2024

The next hunt is scheduled for Saturday February 10th,2024. It will be a by weight, two person team event with a lunker squirrel category. 

       Teams will register/pay a $20.00 per two person team entry fee prior to the actual hunt day. The club will cover the entry fee of $10.00 for any youth team member who is under the age of eighteen. The fee for the lunker category is $10.00 per team.

Each team member needs to be present in order for their squirrels to be weighted. 
Each team member will be allowed to enter a maximum of six (6) gray squirrels for weighting.
The total weight of the the squirrels from each team member will be added together for the  TOTAL WEIGHT for that team. Maximum 12 squirrels
If only one team member shows up to have their squirrels weighted then his or her weight will be the TOTAL WEIGHT for that team. Maximum six squirrels.

Only gray squirrels.  No frozen squirrels.  No wet squirrels. No road kills.  Only squirrels taken on the day of the hunt can be entered.
