Results from the January 22, 2017 Gray squirrel hunt

The first squirrel hunt of the season went well. The day started off foggy and it got very warm for January with temperatures getting into the fifties. This may have caused the squirrels to sleep in as most of the action was reported to be in the early afternoon.

This also was the first point system scoring hunt. There were 15 teams entered  with  a total of 30 people of which three were youths.

Six teams entered a total of 22 squirrels with 16 head shots and 6 body shot. The following are the results:

First Place went to the team of Brian Barclay and Tyler Wodard with six squirrels (5 head shot and one body shot)  for a total of 11 points.

Second Place went to the team of Eric Riegel and Tom Grasek with six squirrels (4 head shot two body shot) for a total of 10 points.

Third Place went to the team of Dale and Luke Allen with four squirrels (all head shot) for a total of 8 points.

The club is once again collecting squirrel tails and will be sending them to Mepps lures after the final hunt of the season. The club provided chili, venison noodle bake and chips and dip. For anyone who showed up to have their squirrels scored.  A good time was had by all.

THE NEXT GRAY SQUIRREL HUNT is Scheduled for SATURDAY FEBRUARY 11th 2017. It will again be a two person team event but this time it will be by total weight and include a lunker squirrel category. We will also have a individual (no team)  rabbit category by total weight and a lunker rabbit category. Check back here for a posting of the rules and other information about the hunt.
