Final TOP GUN SHOOT of 2023

 

 The Final TOP GUN shoot of 2023 will take place on Saturday December 30th 2023. Starting at 11 am. As in the past shoots the club will be having a raffle for a $25.00 voucher good for use at any Kuneytown Sportsmens Club function. Each person who shoots in any of the Top Gun categories will be entered into the raffle. The person will be entered once for each of the categories that they shoot in. Drawing will be held at the end of the shoot.

This event is limited to club members only, except for the youth .22 rim fire rifle which any youth age 12 to 17 can enter provided they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian on the day of the shoot. There will be a Bass Pro gift card awarded to the highest score youth shooters at this event. Youth shoot will be 12-14 years old and 15-17 years old. Youth shooters will not be entered in the raffle.

If there is interest we will be adding a bow category at this event. You could be Kuneytown's Sportsmens Club first bow Top Bow.

Presently the muzzle loader category is open. The scores in the other 9 categories are all beatable.

The Fourth TOP GUN Shoot is scheduled for Saturday October 7th, 2023

 The next TOP GUN shoot will take place on Saturday October 7th 2023. Starting at 12 noon. In an effort to attract more participants the club will be having a raffle for a $25.00 voucher good for use at any Kuneytown Sportsmens Club function. Each person who shoots in any of the Top Gun categories will be entered into the raffle. The person will be entered once for each of the categories that they shoot in. Drawing will be held at the end of the shoot.

TOP GUN SHOOTING EVENTS

There will be four TOP GUN shooting events held this year. The first one is scheduled for Saturday April 15th 2023 starting at 10 AM. until all registered persons have shot. There is no cost to enter this event.

This event will include all 10 TOP GUN categories: 

  • .22 Rim fire rifle. 15 shots 5 at 50 feet offhand, 5 at 50 yards offhand 5 at 100 yards bench rest.
  • .22 Rim fire pistol. 10 shots 5 at 50 feet offhand, 5 at 50 yards bench rest allowed.
  • Rapid fire .22 Rim fire pistol. 5 shots at 25 yards offhand in 5 seconds.
  • Rapid fire Center fire pistol. 5 shots at 25 yards offhand in 5 seconds.
  • Center fire pistol 5 shots 3 at 50 feet offhand and 2 at 50 yards bench rest allowed.
  • Center fire rifle 5 shots 3 at 50 yards and 2 at 100 yards offhand.
  • Long range rifle. 3 shots at 250 yards bench rest in less than 2 minutes.
  • Muzzle loader rifle 3 shots one at 100 yards and two at 50 yards offhand.
  • Shotgun slug. 3 shots one at 100 yards and two at 50 yards offhand.
  • Youth .22 Rim fire rifle. 12 shots 6 at 50 feet offhand and 6 at 50 yards bench rest allowed.

Prizes will be awarded to the highest score youth shooters at each event. Youth shoot will be 12-14 years old and 15-17 years old.

You can register for the shoot by contacting any of the TOP GUN committee members. Tom 315-835-5502, Keith 315-568-9710, Moe 315-651-0546, Nate 315-651-8236, Andrea 315-210-0853 giving your name and what categories you want to shoot in. Walk ups will be allowed only if time permits.

 You must provide your own firearm, ammo and a gun case. All firearms will be unloaded, inside a case until it is time for it to be used at the firing line. The club will provide the Official TOP GUN targets. If time permits you may shoot more than once in a category.

Rules for each category are posted inside the club range building, it is recommended that you review them prior to the shoot. The rules will be explained at the shoot. 

Based on the amount of participants there maybe time limits set for the categories that don't already have them.

The three other TOP GUN shoots are scheduled for Saturdays June 3rd, August 5th and October 7th 2023.

Results from the February 26th 2023 Squirrell hunt

The final squirrel hunt of the season took place Sunday February 26, 2023.

There were six teams signed up. Five teams brought in 34 squirrels to be weighed in. The following are the results:

Winning team was Harold and Mike with 12 squirrels 16.30 pounds.

Lunker squirrel was a Tie between Mike and Eric at 1.56 pounds.

Rules for the Gray Squirrel/rabbit hunt scheduled for Saturday February 4th 2023

 

Each person will register/pay a $10.00 entry fee prior to the actual hunt day. Persons desiring to enter the lunker squirrel category will pay an additional $5.00 fee. The club will cover the entry fees  for any youth who is under the age of eighteen.

REGISTRATION: Can be done any time prior to the hunt but no later than the night before the hunt. Registration can be done in person on Friday nights at the club or by calling

Prizes will be determined based on the amount of persons entered.
Under 5 persons event will be cancelled.
5-9 only first place wins a prize.
10-15 First and second wins a prize.
16 on up First, second and third place will win prizes
Lunker squirrel only the heaviest squirrel will win a prize
  
Each person will be allowed to enter a maximum of six (6) gray squirrels for a maximum of 12 points. 

Point system scoring.

2 points for a head shot with the neck counting as a head shot.

1 point for any other hit on the body.

½ point for more than one bullet hole.

NOTE:  Each shotgun pellet hole counts as a bullet hole.  So if more than one pellet hits the squirrel it counts as more than one bullet hole.  ½ point.

Ties will be broken by the amount of  head shots. Person with the most head shots wins the tie breaker.
Any rim fire caliber can be used.
Pellet/air guns are allowed.
Shotguns can be used but see NOTE above.
No center fire calibers.
No red squirrels.  No frozen squirrels.  No road kills. Only squirrels taken on the day of the hunt can be entered.

Lunker squirrel is by weight so they can not be wet.
 
RABBIT RULES:
Entry fee is $10.00 per person. Extra $5.00 for lunker category. 
There will only be a heaviest bag and lunker rabbit category. Unless there are 10 or more people  entered. Then there will be first and second prize for heaviest bag.          
 
Each person will be allowed to enter a maximum of six rabbits.
 
No wet rabbits. No frozen rabbits. no road kills. Only rabbits taken on the day of the hunt can be entered.
 
Any person with a NYS small game hunting license can participate; all NYS small game hunting regulations must be observed.

Each person will be required to show their small game hunting license prior to their squirrels  being  weighted and/or scored.


Hunting ends at 3:00 P.M. you must be at the club by then. Club will be open from 1 PM. Winners will be determined, and prizes awarded.

RESULTS from the FIRST gray squirrel/rabbit hunt are in.

The first squirrel/rabbit hunt of the season took place Saturday January 21, 2023. It was overcast with some rain and sleet. Temperatures ranging from 30 to 34 degrees. There was light coating of snow on the ground, and lots of standing water. There has been over 3 inches of rain this month.

There were 13 people signed up with one being a youth. Eight people brought in 42 squirrels to be weighed in. The following are the results:

First place Harold Trickler with six squirrels 8.57 pounds.
Second place Phil Jensen with six squirrels 8.38 pounds.

Smallest squirrel was a Tie between Scott Ridley and Eric Riegel at 1.08 pounds.
 
There were two people entered in the rabbit category with no rabbits taken.

The club is once again collecting squirrel tails to be sent to Mepps Lures at the end of the season The club provided squirrel chili, which was excellent, for those who showed up at the club.

The next squirrel/rabbit hunt is scheduled for Saturday February 4,2023. It will be a point score event with a lunker squirrel category. Rules to be published soon.

The 2023 squirrel and rabbit hunts have been scheduled.

 

There will be three gray squirrel and rabbit hunts this year the dates are Saturday January 21st, Saturday February 4th and Sunday February 26th.


The first hunt on Saturday January 21st, 2023, will be a by weight and will include a smallest squirrel category. Each person will register/pay a $10.00 entry fee prior to the actual hunt day. Persons desiring to enter the smallest  squirrel category will pay an additional $5.00 fee. The club will cover the entry fees  for any youth who is under the age of eighteen.
