Results from the second Gray Squirrel hunt 2021

The second squirrel hunt of the season took place Sunday January 30, 2022. It was very cold with temperatures ranging from 7 to 21 degrees. There was 12 or more inches of snow covering the ground. The sun was out at times, but it remained cold.

There were five teams signed up. Four teams brought in 16 squirrels to be weighted.

As there were only five teams entered only first place received a prize.

Eric Riegel and Tom Grasek with six squirrels for a total weight 8.15 pounds.

Lunker squirrel went to Eric Riegel with a 1.69 pound squirrel.

Smallest squirrel went to Scott Ridley with a 1.06 pound squirrel.

The club provided squirrel drumsticks again. They just keep getting better and better..

Rules for the Gray squirrel hunt scheduled for Sunday January 30, 2022

 The next hunt is scheduled for Sunday January 30,2022. It will be a by weight, two person team event with a lunker and smallest squirrel category. 

       Teams will register/pay a $20.00 per two person team entry fee prior to the actual hunt day. The club will cover the entry fee of $10.00 for any youth team member who is under the age of eighteen. The fee for the lunker and smallest category is $10.00 per team.

REGISTRATION: Can be done any time prior to each hunt but no later than the night before the hunt. Registration can be done in person on Friday nights at the club or by calling

Prizes will be determined based on the number of teams entered.
Under 2 event will be cancelled.
3-5  only first place wins a prize.
6-10 First and second wins a prize.
11 on up First, second and third place will win prizes
The Lunker/heaviest squirrel and the smallest/lightest squirrel will split that category prize. 

Total weight is based on two people per team.
Each team member needs to be present in order for their squirrels to be weighted. 
Each team member will be allowed to enter a maximum of six (6) gray squirrels for weighting.
The total weight of the the squirrels from each team member will be added together for the  TOTAL WEIGHT for that team. Maximum 12 squirrels
If only one team member shows up to have their squirrels weighted then his or her weight will be the TOTAL WEIGHT for that team. Maximum six squirrels.

Only gray squirrels.  No frozen squirrels.  No wet squirrels. No road kills.  Only squirrels taken on the day of the hunt can be entered.

Smallest/ lightest  gray squirrel must be a whole squirrel. Missing body parts will disqualify the squirrel. 

Any person with a NYS small game hunting license can participate; all NYS small game hunting regulations must be observed.

Each person will be required to show their small game hunting license prior to their squirrels  being  weighted.


Hunting ends at 3:00 P.M. you must be at the club by then. Club will be open from 1 PM. Winners will be determined, and prizes awarded.

Results from the First Gray Squirrel hunt 2021

The first squirrel hunt of the season took place Sunday January 9, 2022. It was an overcast, rainy, windy day with temperatures ranging from 30 to 37 degrees. There was some snow on the ground.

There were 17 people signed up. Five people brought in 12 squirrels to be scored. There were 2 head shot, 7 body shot, and 3 with more than one bullet hole. The following are the results:

First place Dale Rolley with three squirrels one head shot two body shot for 4 points.

Second place Cole Marr with four squirrels three body shot one more than one bullet hole for 3 1/2 points.

Third place Tom Grasek two squirrels one head and one body shot for 3 points

Lunker squirrel went to Tom Grasek with a 1.31 pound squirrel.

The club is once again collecting squirrel tails to be sent to Mepps Lures at the end of the season The club provided squirrel drumsticks, which were delicious, for those who showed up at the club.

The next hunt is scheduled for Sunday January 30,2022. It will be a by weight, two person team event with a lunker and smallest squirrel category. Rules to be published soon.

The First Gray Squirrel hunt of the season will be Sunday January 9th 2022


Each person will register/pay a $10.00 entry fee prior to the actual hunt day. Persons desiring to enter the lunker squirrel category will pay an additional $5.00 fee. The club will cover the entry fees  for any youth who is under the age of eighteen.

5-9 only first place wins a prize.
10-15 First and second wins a prize.
16 on up First, second and third place will win prizes
Lunker squirrel only the heaviest squirrel will win a prize
  
Each person will be allowed to enter a maximum of six (6) gray squirrels for a maximum of 12 points. 

Point system scoring.

2 points for a head shot with the neck counting as a head shot.

1 point for any other hit on the body.

½ point for more than one bullet hole.

NOTE:  Each shotgun pellet hole counts as a bullet hole.  So if more than one pellet hits the squirrel it counts as more than one bullet hole.  ½ point.

Ties will be broken by the amount of  head shots. Person with the most head shots wins the tie breaker.
Any rim fire caliber can be used.
Pellet/air guns are allowed.
Shotguns can be used but see NOTE above.
No center fire calibers.
No red squirrels.  No frozen squirrels.  No road kills. Only squirrels taken on the day of the hunt can be entered.

Lunker squirrel is by weight so they can not be wet.
Any person with a NYS small game hunting license can participate; all NYS small game hunting regulations must be observed.

Renting the Kuneytown Sportsmen's Club Meeting Hall

Many Kuneytown members, and friends and family of members, occasionally have a need or desire to rent our spacious meeting hall. Here are the procedures and rules. 

There is a master calendar at the Club kept by the Club Leadership. Check to see if your proposed date is available. You can generally ask any bartender, the Bar Steward, any Officer, or any Certificate Member to see the Club calendar.

Secure the date (if available) and schedule a planning meeting with the Club President or Bar Steward. Be sure to include in your planning discussion decorations, musicians or other live performers, tents, and any additional preparation items or time you may need. 

Pay your club rental fee (Basic club rental fee is $ ________ . There may be additional fees for catering and specific bar requests beyond our normal stocking).

Leave the Club meeting hall exactly as you found it, and as clean or cleaner than you found it.
