Results from the final Squirrel/rabbit hunt are in
Saturday February 22, 2020 was the final squirrel/rabbit hunt of the season. The morning was a bit chilly but it warmed up to 40 degrees by weigh in. About 4-6 inches of snow covered the ground with bright sunshine. The squirrels were out and running around.
Nine people signed up for squirrel none for rabbit. Seven people brought in 37 squirrels with five getting there bag limit of six squirrels.
This was a by weight event:
First place Tim Wright 6 squirrels at 8.18 pounds
Second place Phil Jensen 6 squirrels at 7.94 pounds
Lunker squirrel George Havelin 1.57 pound
The club collected 85 squirrel tails which will be sent to Mepps lures. Thanks to all who participated.
Now don't forget that Saturday March 7 is the game dinner $15.00 plus you have a chance at winning a $500.00 Bass Pro gift card and squirrel will be on the menu. Tickets can be purchased at the club there is a limited supply so get them now before they are gone. We will start serving at 4PM

The final squirrel/rabbit hunt of the season is scheduled for February 22, 2020
This Saturday February 22, 2020 will be the final squirrel/rabbit hunt of the season.
This one will be by weight and include a lunker category.
Here are the rules.
You must be licensed to hunt small game in New York and obey all rules and regulation pertaining to small game hunting.
You will be required to show your license before you can weigh in.
Only enter the squirrel/rabbits that you legally harvested. This is not a team event.
No frozen squirrels or rabbits will be accepted.
No wet squirrels or rabbits will be accepted.
No road killed squirrels or rabbits will be accepted.
No red squirrels will be accepted.
Entry fee is $10.00 for squirrel. Extra $5.00 for lunker.
Amount of entries will determine prize schedule. Less then 5 will result in the event being cancelled. 5 to 9 only heaviest bag 10 to 14 First and second more than 14 first, second and third.
Entry fee is $10.00 for Rabbit. Extra $5.00 for lunker.
There will only be heaviest bag and lunker rabbit category. Unless there are 10 or more people entered. Then there will be 1st and second heaviest bag.

Next scheduled squirrel/rabbit hunt is Saturday February 8th 2020
The next scheduled squirrel/rabbit hunt is scheduled for Saturday February 8. This one will be by weight and include a lunker category. As the club is still collecting squirrels and rabbits for the upcoming game dinner. We would ask you to hunt using a rimfire caliber this eliminates the problems associated with shotgun pellets in the meat. However you can use a shotgun if you choose to.

Second squirrel/rabbit hunt cancelled
January 26, 2020. Although the second squirrel/rabbit hunt was officially cancelled, the four people who had signed up hunted anyway. It was wet out there from the previous day's one inch of rain/sleet/snow. It was overcast with temperatures ranging from 33 to 36 degrees. There was an inch or so of snow on the ground. The squirrels were out and on the move.
Three of the four people who hunted managed to get 15 squirrels with one person getting the limit of six. There were 4 head shots and 11 body shots. They would just not stay still for very long.
All 15 of them were given to the club for the upcoming game dinner scheduled for Saturday March 7th. Tickets are $15.00 each and includes a Bass Pro gift card raffle with $500.00 top prize. Dinner is scheduled to be served at 4 PM. There is a limited amount of tickets so get yours soon before they sell out. They can be purchased at the club, which is open every Friday night at 6 PM.

Results from the First Squirrel/rabbit hunt 2020
The day Saturday January 18th 2020 was cold and snowing. Temperature ranged from 15 to 24 degrees. With some wind. Small amount of snow on ground to start the day by 3 pm 4 inches had fallen.
There were 23 people signed up, with 3 of them being youths. Ten people brought in 33 squirrels to be scored. With three getting their bag limit of six. There were 13 head shots, 10 body shot and 10 with more than one bullet hole. The following are the results:
First Place Conner Austin with a limit of six squirrels and a point score of 10 1/2.
Second Place Eric Riegel with a limit of six squirrels with a point score of 9.
Third Place Scott Martin with five squirrels and a point score of 5 1/2.
Lunker squirrel went to Conner Austin with a 1.60 pound squirrel.
Four people signed up for rabbit. Three of them each got a rabbit.
Barry Turner won heaviest bag with one rabbit weighting 3.28 pounds.
The club is once again collecting squirrel tails to be sent to Mepps lures at the end of the season.
The club provided fried squirrel legs coated in a roasted almond crust and Scott Ridley supplied his award winning chili for those who showed up at the club.

Youth TOP GUN SHOOTS
Youth Top Gun Shoots
During each of the squirrel/rabbit hunt events youth shooters age 17 and under may compete for the title of 2020 Youth Top Gun. The shoots will begin at 1:30 pm and run until all youth shooters present have shot. Shooters may enter/shoot as many times as they desire. There is no cost and the club provides the official Top Gun targets. At the end of the year the youth with the highest score will be named 2020 Kuneytown Youth Top Gun and will be awarded a Bass Pro gift card.

The following are the rules for the shoot:
Any .22 rim fire rifle can be used. You will need to provide the rifle and ammo.
Shooting Position: OFFHAND at
50 feet, any position at 50 yards. Sitting, kneeling, prone or bench rest. If bench
rest is used, the forearm of the rifle can be supported on a rest but cannot be
secured to the rest, no tie downs. The rear of the rifle must be supported by
the shoulder of the shooter.
Distance/Shots: 6 shots at 50 feet, 6 shots at 50 yards.

Get ready the first gray squirrel/rabbit hunt is scheduled for Saturday January 18, 2020.
The highest TOTAL WEIGHT and lunker rabbit will win prizes.
The gray squirrel rules and general information
As an individual event using the point scoring system
With a lunker squirrel category.
Each person will register/pay a $10.00 entry fee prior to the actual hunt day. Persons desiring to enter the lunker squirrel category will pay an additional $5.00 fee. The club will cover the entry fees for any youth who is under the age of eighteen.
REGISTRATION: Can be done any time prior to each
hunt but no later than the night before the hunt. Registration can be done in
person on Friday nights at the club or by calling

Prizes will be determined based on the amount of persons entered.
Under 5 persons event will be cancelled.
5-9 only first place wins a prize.
10-15 First and second wins a prize.
16 on up First, second and third place will win prizes
Lunker squirrel only the heaviest squirrel will win a prize
Lunker squirrel only the heaviest squirrel will win a prize
Each person will be allowed to enter a maximum
of six (6) gray squirrels for a maximum of 12 points.
Point
system scoring.
2 points for a head shot with the neck counting as a
head shot.
1 point for any other hit on the body.
½ point for more than one bullet hole.
NOTE: Each shotgun pellet hole counts as a bullet
hole. So if more than one pellet hits
the squirrel it counts as more than one bullet hole. ½ point.
Ties will be broken by the amount of head shots. Person with the most head shots
wins the tie breaker.
Any rim fire caliber can be used.
Pellet/air guns are allowed.
Shotguns can be used but see NOTE above.
No center fire calibers.
No red squirrels. No frozen squirrels. No road kills. Only squirrels taken on the day of the hunt can be entered.
Lunker squirrel is by weight so they can not be wet.
